Region 3C Top Seed New Prague Gets by Faribault

New Prague Orioles defeat Faribault Lakers 3-1 in MBA Region 3C baseball tournament action in New Prague today. (August 4, 2024)

The Orioles collected 7 hits and committed 2 errors while Faribault had 5 hits, 3 errors in the game.

New Prague scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and added 2 runs in the fifth inning.  The Lakers score came in the top of the 9th inning when Xander Fitzsimmons smacked a RBI double with two outs.

Mason Miller started on the hill for Faribault, going 7 innings with 6 hits allowed, 3 runs, 2 earned while striking out 4 with no walks.  Miller threw 97 pitches, 70 strikes.

Porter Sartor finished the Lakers pitching going an inning with 1 hit given up, no runs, 1 strikeout and no walks.

Faribault had three stolen bases in the game with two of them by Drew Conrad.  Aiden Tobin scored the lone Lakers run.

New Prague starting pitcher Gavin Bergman threw 7 innings allowing 4 hits with 7 strikeouts, 2 walks.  Bergman recorded 119 pitches, 78 strikes.

Matt Zweber pitched the final 2 innings with 1 hit, earned, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk while throwing 33 pitches, 20 strikes.

Orioles lead-off hitter Eric Wagner had 2 hits and RBI, Tom McBroom clubbed a double and scored a run.  Aiden Dorzinski scored a run and collected an RBI.

New Prague is now a win away from advancing to state with a home game Tuesday against Montgomery.  The Mallards upended #4 seed Webster 6-2.

In other first round games Lonsdale Aces edged #3 seed Prior Lake 4-3 to advance in winner's bracket and will play at Union Hill Tuesday night.  The Bulldogs downed St. Benedict Saints 9-4.

Prior Lake will go up against St. Benedict Tuesday.  The site is to be determined with start time scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Faribault hosts Webster at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Three teams go on to state from Region 3C.

Section 1B finals Sunday saw two teams qualify for state and two series are going to a third game Tuesday.

Rochester sweeps Hampton with a 11-4 win and Elko swept St. Patrick with a 12-8 victory.  The Royals and Express are going to state and St. Patrick and Hampton head to Redemption Round.

Northfield won a thriller over Miesville 1-0 in 15 innings at Sechler Park in Northfield.  Blake Mellgren had the walk-off hit in the win.  The Knights go to Miesville Tuesday for 8:00 p,m, game.

New Market evened their series with Dundas following a 9-2 win at the Fish Bowl.  The Muskies will swim to Dundas for the deciding game Tuesday a 8:00 p.m.

Section 5C has two teams advance to state with Wanamingo tangling with Red Wing for the top seed out of the Region at Noon Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Owatonna.

The Jacks defeated Hastings 9-6 in Hastings by scoring three runs over the last two innings to secure the victory.  Alex Roosen went the distance for Wanamingo and had a great day at the plate knocking in multiple runs.

The Jacks had a 4-1 lead before they committed 3 errors in the top of the third inning allowing the Hawks to take a 6-4 lead.  Wanamingo scored a run in the 6th and a run in the 7th inning to tie the game before a bases loaded walk gave them the lead in the 8th inning.

Hastings goes up against Cannon Falls in an elimination game Friday, August 9, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. in Owatonna.  Stewartville-Racine will play in Red Wing at 8:00 p.m. Friday against the Pine Island vs. Austin winner.

Four teams get to advance from Region 6C.

Sunday Jordan defeated St. Peter 10-3 to qualify for state and LeSueur Braves are heading to the big dance for the first time in two decades after edging Waterville Indians 4-2.

Jordan and LeSueur will compete Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Arlington with winner the top seed and loser the #2 seed out of Region 6C.

Minnesota Lake Royals downed Blue Earth Pirates to end Blue Earth's season.  The Royals play 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Arlington with winner assured of state berth.

St. Peter Saints will play winner of game between Eagle Lake and St. Clair at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Arlington with loser season over and winner going to state.

The winner of Waterville vs Minnesota Lake and winner of the St. Peter game will play each other to determine the #3 and #4 seeds out of Region 5C 4:00 p.m. Saturday in Arlington.
