
Cannon Falls Faces Waterville For State Tournament Berth
The Cannon Falls Bears have done things the hard way in this year's Region 5C amateur baseball playoffs.
After losing their first game at home 5-3 to Morristown they avenged that loss Saturday, August 15, 2026 by defeating the Morries 5-0 to earn a game Noon Sunday, August 16, 2026 against Waterville with the winner gaining state.
In between those games the Bears avoided hibernation by defeating Pine Island 8-0, Minnesota Lake 3-0.
The latest state rankings had the Bears #5 in Class C and the Indians received votes.
Waterville got to rest Saturday after losing to the Waseca Braves in the title game Friday night at Grose Park in Waterville 5-1.
The Braves are top seed from Region 5C. Winner Sunday goes as #2 seed from the Region.
Morristown opened their tournament with a 5-3. win in Cannon Falls before falling 1-0 to Waterville in the semifinals of winner's bracket.
Morristown defeated Wanamingo 6-2 Saturday, August 15, 2026 before falling to Cannon Falls.
The Bears 3-0 win over the Minnesota Lake Royals featured a Keith Meyers gem on the mound. He scattered 5 hits while going the distance with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk while throwing 116 pitches, 79 strikes.
Cannon Falls scored the only runs they would need in the first inning and added the other in the 6th inning.
The Bears collected 7 hits with no errors.
The youngest member of the team, 17 year old Tyler Meyers had an RBI hit, Scott Peterson added another, and St. Johns University product Ben Schmitz anchored short while collecting two hits and scoring a run.
Jadan Winchell had two hits and an RBI.
No box score was provided for their win over Morristown.
In District 3B competition the Jordan Brewers defeated the Webster Sox 3-0 in Webster to determine the top two seeds while LeSueur downed Union Hill 11-0 to pencil in the #3 and #4 seeds from the District.
District 2B in Red Wing saw Stewartville-Racine Sharks take a bite out of Northfield 3-0 to capture the top seed from the district.
Red Wing defeated Austin Blue Jays and then came from behind to best Northfield 6-3 and punch their ticket to state as the #2 seed from the district.
Region 12C St. Peter clobbered top seed New Prague 12-3 in St. Patrick to capture the top seed. The Orioles advance as #2 seed from region.
New Ulm edged Rochester 5-3 to determine the #3 and #4 seeds from Section 1A, the section Faribault, Owatonna and Dundas play in.
Elko goes as top seed and defending A Champion Miesville is #2 seed from Section 1A.
