More thrilling games ruled the day at the Minnesota Baseball Association State Amateur Baseball Tournaments on Sunday.

In Class C, the Regal Eagles got by the Waterville Indians 3-1 in Hutchinson with the winning run at the plate for the Indians when the game ended.

The Eagles collected their 3 runs on 8 hits with 0 errors, left 9 runners on base.  Waterville had 1 run on 6 hits with 2 errors, 8 runners left.

The Indians scored in the second inning on a Bladyn Bartelt sacrifice bunt RBI scoring Ben Boran.  Regal tied in the 6th and scored a run in the 8th and 9th innings to secure the victory.  The go-ahead run in the 8th inning scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch after the previous batter was walked.

The bottom of the ninth opened with a Nolan Grose line drive out. Dalton Grose smacked a single.  Regal brought in a new pitcher, Bladyn Bartelt worked the count full and walked which brought the winning run to the plate.

Jack Mellstrom struck out swinging on the 6th pitch of his at bat.  Nolan Wetzel struck out looking with the count 1-2 to end the game.

Thomas McBroom went the first 8 innings on the hill for the Indians with 7 hits allowed, 3 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, throwing 98 pitches, 64 strikes.  Luke Sellmer finished the game allowing 1 hit with a walk and strikeout.  He tallied 19 pitches, 9 strikes.

Jack Mellstrom and Sam Stier stroked doubles in the game, Dalton Grose had 2 hits.

Gabe Rohman earned the win for the Eagles going 8 1/3 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts with 123 pitches thrown, 85 for strikes.  Brayden Skindelien got the save going 2/3 of inning with 1 walk, two strikeouts, 18 pitches, 12 strikes,

In other Class C games Pierz blanked Courtland 9-0, Howard Lake defeated Windom 3-1 to set the stage for the final weekend of competition.

Quarterfinal games Saturday, August 30, 2025 will be:

  • 11:00 a.m.  Farming Flames vs. Hanska Lakers in Browntown
  • 1:30 p.m.  Regal Eagles vs. LeSueur Braves in Hutchinson
  • 4:00 p.m.   Glencoe Brewers vs. Roseau Royals in Hutchinson
  • 6:30 p.m.   Pierz Lakers vs. Howard Lake Orphans in Hutchinson

Class B action Sunday saw the Foley Lumberjacks chop down the Jordan Brewers 4-0.  Foley scored all their runs in the first inning.  Pitchers Logan Winkelman and Reese Gregory of Avon combined for the shutout.

Winkelman threw 8 innings with 3 hits allowed, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts. 106 pitches/73 strikes.  Gregory threw 16 pitches. 12 strikes with 1 hit in the scoreless 9th inning.

The Brewers had been ranked #1 most of the season in Class B.

Young America Cardinals advanced with a 7-3 victory over the Maple Lake Lakers in Hutchinson.

New Ulm Brewers edged the Princeton Panthers 3-2 in an 18 inning marathon at Hutchinson.

All the Brewers runs came from solo home runs including a walk-off for Trevor Nissen, his second of the game with 3 hits and 2 RBI.  Andrew Peters hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th to send the game into extra innings.

New Ulm was 9 for 10 in stolen bases in the game.  Cole Renweiler had 3, Justin Hoffman 2 and six different guys swiped a base in the game.

The Panthers were 1 of 2 in the stolen base department.

Mitch Bockenstedt started pitching for the Brewers going the first 6 innings with 5 hits allowed, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, 91 pitches, 61 strikes.  Spencer Chirpich draftee from Fairmont went the final 12 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts ti secure the win.  He threw 136 pitches. 93 strikes.

That sets up the final weekend in Class B with quarterfinals Saturday:

  • 11:00 a.m. Hutchinson Huskies hosts Delano Athletics
  •  1:30 p.m.   Raymond Rockets vs. Young America Cardinals at Brownton
  •  4:00 p.m.   Cold Spring Springers vs. Nisswa Lightning at Brownton
  •  6:30 p.m.  Foley Lumberjacks vs. New Ulm Brewers in Brownton

Class A Sunday Dundas scored 2 runs in the 8th inning to break a 3-3 tie and go on to defeat the Plymouth Hitdawgs 6-5.  Joey Winters cracked the go-ahead double scoring Carson Jones.  Winters had 3 hits, Jones 3 hits, Ryan Cahoon 3 hits for the Dukes.  Winters finished with 3 RBI.

Kenyon-Wanamingo graduate Drew Sathrum smacked a pair of hits including a double , scored a run and stole a base for Dundas.  Northfield graduate Austin Koep collected a hit.

Ryan Bell threw the first 5 1/3 innings with 8 hits allowed, 5 runs, 4 earned, 9 strkeouts, no walk, 85 pitches, 59 strikes.

Sawyer Hoffman nailed down the win going 3 2/3 innings with 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 7 strikeouts, 44 pitches, 38 strikes.

In other Class A action, Chaska got by Sartell 4-2. Champlin Park rolled by Shakopee    9-3 to set up the quarterfinals Labor Day weekend.
