Faribault Lakers Season Ends and Elko Captures Section 1A

The Faribault Lakers ended their season one win away from a Class A State Tournament berth losing 9-4 Friday night at Bell Field to New Ulm 9-4.

The game was filled with walks.  The Brewers allowed 10 and the Lakers 8 passes in the contest.  Faribault hitters also struck out 13 times.

New Ulm stroked 11 hits, Faribault tallied 4 led by Austin Rendler with two including a double.

The Lakers were 2 of 3 in stolen bases.

Joey Grote started the game on the mound for Faribault working the first 4 innings with 8 hits allowed, 7 runs, 5 earned, 5 walks, 2 strikeouts.  Grote hurled 93 pitches, 56 strikes.

Mason Miller threw the final 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts.  Miller threw 81 pitches, 470 strikes.

New Ulm was led offensively by Justin Hoffman with a triple, single, sacrifice fly and 3 RBI.  Wade French and Noel Davila each added 2 hits.

Mitch Bockonstrat started going 4 innings with 2 hits, 2 runs allowed, 1 earned, 5 walks, 4 strikeouts.  He threw 93 pitches 54 strikes.

Two other pitchers combined for 5 innings with 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 5 walks, and 9 strikeouts while throwing a combined 98 pitches, 54 strikes.

Faribault ends their season with a 15-14 record.

New Ulm plays Saturday, August 15 against the Rochester Royals to determined the #3 and #4 seeds at the State Class A Amateur Baseball Tournament.

The game starts at 2:00 p.m. at Mayo Field in Rochester.

Rochester edged New Market 8-7 in the other elimination bracket game Friday night at the Fishbowl in New Market.

Not many amateur teams in Minnesota (if any) can say they have been to the State Tournament the past three seasons from each of the classes.

New Ulm went in 2024 in Class C, 2025 in Class B and now 2026 in Class A.

This is their 8th consecutive trip to state and they have a 22-4 record.

The Elko Express defeated top seed and defending State Champion Miesville Friday night 4-1 on the road.

The Mudhens outhit them 7 to 6 but it's the runs that determine the winner.

Elko had three pitchers hold down Miesville while the Mudhens also used three pitchers.

The Express started Brady Bean who earned the win going 7 and a third with 5 hits allowed, 1 unearned run, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts.  He threw 112 pitches, 66 strikes.

Wyatt Seelhammer went one inning and Alex Schneider retired the last two batters.

The Mudhens started Trevor Koenig who took the loss after going 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts after hurling 68 pitches, 45 strikes.

Jack Wright threw 2 innings and Ryne Parker 2 innings combining for 1 hit, 3 unearned runs, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts.  They threw 31 pitches, 18 strikes.

The #6 through #9 hitters in the batting order led the way for Elko clubbing 5 of the 6 hits led by Dillon Carlson with 2 hits including a double.

The Express nab the top seed from Section 1A and have 21 wins.  Miesville goes to state as #2 Section 1A seed.

Waseca defeated Waterville 3-1 in the Region 5C title game at Waterville Friday night.

The Indians will play Noon Saturday at home against the squad that comes out of the elimination bracket to determined the remaining seed from that region.

Noon today Wanamingo clashes with Morristown followed by a 3pm game with Cannon Falls and Minnesota Lake in Waterville.

The winners play at 6:00 p.m. tonight to see who plays Waterville Sunday.

In District 2B Friday night Austin Blue Jays downed Plainview 8-6 and Red Wing cruised by Dodge County 11-0 in 7 innings in Elimination Bracket play.

1:00 p.m. today Stewartville-Racine and Northfield play for the top seed with the loser facing the winner of the 4:00 p.m. game between Austin and Red Wing at 7:00 p.m. in Red Wing.

Region 12C at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026 New Prague and St. Peter collide in St. Patrick to determined the two seeds out of that particular region.

In District 3B action at Webster the Sox play Jordan at 3:00 p.m. for the top seed with the loser gaining the #2 seed at state and at Noon Le Sueur tangles with Union Hill to determine the #3 and #4 seeds.
