New Prague Edges Faribault in Slugfest

The New Prague Orioles flew into Bell Field in Faribault Sunday and went home 12-9 victors over the Lakers in Amateur baseball action.

Last Sunday, in New Prague the Orioles squeaked out a 2-1 pitcher's duel win.

This Sunday, July 7, 2024, both teams were smacking the ball all over Bell Field with Faribault collecting 10 hits and New Prague, 16 hits.

The Orioles had 3 errors, Lakers 1 error.

Faribault took a 7-0 lead into the 4th inning before New Prague erupted for 7 runs in the 4th inning and 4 more in the 5th inning. The Lakers scored 2 runs in the 8th inning before New Prague added an insurance run in the 9th frame.

Faribault had 4 doubles and a solo home run in the game while the Orioles cranked out 5 doubles and a solo dinger.

Porter Sartor hit the solo homer for Faribault with doubles by Joey Grote, Drew Conrad, Stefan Anderson and Tucker Alstead.

Grote paced the Lakers offense with 3 hits, Conrad and Anderson each had 2 hits in the game featuring plenty offensive firepower.

Egan Bonde went the first 4 innings on the hill for Faribault with 11 hits allowed, 9 runs, all earned, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts. Grote finished the contest going 5 innings with 5 hits allowed, 3 runs, 2 earned, 4 walks, 5 strikeouts.

Gavin Bergman hit the Orioles home run and added another hit, James Fuerniss had 2 doubles. Eric Wagner, 2 hits including a double with 4 RBI, Aiden Dorzinski 2 hits including a double, 3 RBI, Beau Plaisance, 3 hits, including a double with 1 RBI.

Matt Zweber started pitching for New Prague lasting 3 innings with 5 hits allowed, 7 runs, 2 earned, 4 walks, 5 strikeouts. He threw 83 pitches, 48 strikes. Jackson Sirek threw the next 4 innings, giving up 3 hits 1 earned run, with 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and Plaisance threw 2 innings with 2 hits allowed and an earned run with 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Sirek gets the win.

Faribault is now 6-8 and hosts Webster, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
