Jake Petricka, 37, played 8 seasons of Major League baseball with most of those years spent with the Chicago White Sox. Petricka spent two years at Iowa Western Community College before attending Indiana State University.  He broke into the majors with the White Sox in 2013.

He was drafted by the White Sox in the second round of the 2010 draft.  Petricka's best season was 2014 when he achieved 14 saves.

A couple years ago he led his hometown Faribault Lakers amateur baseball team to the State Tournament.

This season he has been the top pitcher for the Elko Express while  logging 60 innings with 8 starts, 5 wins, 3 losses, 43 hits allowed, 9 walks, 70 strikeouts, 20 looking, with a 3.00 ERA.  Batters have hit .194 against the Faribault High School graduate.

Petricka earned a Section 1A playoff win Friday against New Market 10-6 throwing all 9 innings, scattering 6 hits with 4 earned runs allowed, no walks, 12 strikeouts.  He threw 116 pitches, 84 strikes.

Faribault lost a heartbreaker Friday 6-5 in Hastings in the double elimination 11 team tournament.  Four teams will advance to state from the bracket which includes traditional powerhouses like Dundas, Miesville, and St. Patrick.

Winner's Bracket games today are Elko at Dundas and Miesville at St. Patrick with the winners punching their ticket to state.  Both games start 2:00 p.m.

Hampton hosts Owatonna, loser ends season, winner plays Rochester Royals Tuesday.

In District 3 Class B top seed Jordan hosts Montgomery 6:00 p.m. today,  The other games all begin 2:00 p.m. with #2 seed Webster hosting Prior Lake Mudcats, #3 seed Union Hill entertains St. Benedict, #4 New Prague hosts Eagle Lake.

Four teams will advance to state from that tournament.
