The second weekend of the Minnesota Baseball Association (MBA) Class C and Class B State Amateur Baseball tournaments determined teams going into the final weekend.

In Class C a super sixteen teams are left, Class B, exciting eight.

Union Hill rolled over Clinton Cards 13-2 in 7 innings at Tiger Park in Belle Plaine.

The Bulldogs smacked 14 hits including four doubles and a triple while leaving 10 runners on base.  The Cards managed 1 hit off three different Union Hill pitchers and left 4 runners on the bases.

Charlie Otteson started pitching for the Bulldogs, going 5 innings, 1 hit allowed, 2 runs, both earned, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts while throwing 64 pitches, 39 strikes.

Jake Hemann threw an inning of no-hit ball, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 21 pitches, 13 strikes.

CJ Schmidt, draftee from Prior Lake pitched the 7th with no hits allowed and a pair of strikeouts.  He threw 10 pitches, 9 strikes.

Clinton had four different pitchers take the hill.  Union Hill scored 10 runs in the top of the 4th inning to put the game away.

Sixteen players were listed as playing in the game in the Bulldogs scorebook with six of them recording 2 hits each.

Joe Becker hit lead-off, scored 2 runs with 2 hits, Nathan Osborne hammered a triple and double with 2 RBI.  Will Busch slugged 2 hits including a double for 2 RBI.  Nathan Berg had 2 hits and an RBI.  Jack Giesen smacked a double among his 2 hits with 3 RBI.  Jack Kreutzian also doubled with 2 hits and 3 RBI,

Union Hill is now 18-7 and plays Young America Cardinals, Friday, August 30, 2024, 7:30 p.m. in Green Isle.

Young America are the Region 7C Champions.  A loaded Region with Waconia also in the super sixteen after their 6-1 victory over Region 3C Champion Montgomery Sunday in Jordan.

Region 5C Champion Red Wing Aces ended Waterville Indians dream of a state title with a 8-1 win on Saturday in Belle Plaine.

The Aces will face the Courtland Cubs Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in Green Isle.

Region 6c Champion Jordan Brewers has not allowed a run against them in the tournament yet and plays at home Friday, August 30, 2024, 7:30 p.m. against Sauk Centre.

Jordan was the last team to win a state title in their home ballpark 20 years ago.

Class B exciting eight include Miesville Mudhens following their 10 inning come-from-behind win Saturday in Green Isle against St. Paul.
