Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst issued a News Release with details concerning a garage fire his department battled early this morning.

The fire was reported at 2:08 a.m. (Thursday, April 23, 2026) with a caller stating there were flames coming out of the garage at 1519 Greenwood Place in Faribault, Mn.

"Upon responders' arrival flamers and smoke were present from the attached garage." Dienst stated, adding, "One occupant in the home was out upon firefighers' arrival.  Crews forced entry through a door on the back side of the garage and found flames and heavy smoke.  An initial knock down of the fire was accomplished quickly and the garage doors and windows were opened to ventilate the garage.  The interior of the home only had light smoke in it, which was ventilated with fans.  Overhaul of the garage began and hotspots were extinguished.  Firefighters cleared the scene at 3:03 a.m."

The fire department conducted an initial investigation but were unable to determine an exact cause.  The State Fire Marshal's Office was contacted to assist with furthur investigation.

"Thankfully no one was injured and because of the construction of the home, the fire was contained to the garage.  Light smoke did get into the home but that can be mitigated in short order." Dienst concluded.
