The St. Patrick Irish defeated the Urbank Bombers 5-1 in Faribault while Red Wing edged the Watkins Clippers 1-0 in Dundas Friday night in Class C State Amateur Baseball action.

Collin Denk picked up the victory while allowing 3 hits over 7 innings of work.  The junior at Minnesota State University Mankato did not give up a single earned run.  The lone run scored thanks in part to a couple of errors in the 7th inning.

Denk struck out 9, walked 1 while throwing 92 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Trevor Divinski finished the game by striking out the side in the 8th inning.  He allowed a walk in the 9th but no hits in his two innings of play throwing 31 pitches, 17 for strikes.

Urbank starting pitcher Alex Koep deserved a better outcome.  The lefty fanned 12 batters over 6 innings but untimely errors meant his team was down 3-0 when he left the game.

Koep gave up 2 earned runs, walked 1, allowed 6 hits.

Andrew Johnson went to the mound in the 7th inning giving up 2 runs, walked 3 batters, struck out 2 and gave up two hits.  Johnson threw 33 pitches 17 strikes.

Hunter Haggenmuller pitched the 9th inning allowing a baserunner by a walk and had a strikeout while throwing 12 pitches, 6 for strikes.

The so-called official boxscore for the game did not even mention Johnson throwing the 7th inning.

The Irish scored their first run in the 3rd inning after back to back errors by the Bombers shortstop.  St. Patrick then pulled off a double steal to get both runners into scoring position.

Kal Brohmer then scored on a Koep wild pitch before back to back strikeouts ended the threat.

St. Patrick scored two more runs in the 4th inning which started with another error on a Kyle Rhodus hit ball.

Ben Taxdahl cracked a 0-2 pitch for a double scoring Rhodus after Rhodus stole second base then Taxdahl advanced to third base on a wild pitch.

With two outs #9 hitter Jack Taxdahl hit a 2-0 count pitch for a RBI single.  Kal Brohmer had a infield single.  Taxdahl and Brohmer had a double steal but the threat ended with a strikeout.

Urbank scored it's only run in the 7th inning which opened with a Irish error.  The official scorer ruled a hit and error on a 1-2 count pitched ball hit by Alex Koep. I thought a good throw would have recorded the out.

In the bottom of the 7th Drew Johnson came in from left field to pitch for the Bombers.  Brohmer walked.  Jack Friedges, who will be a senior at Minnesota State Mankato hit a 1-2 count pitch for a single.

Following a strikeout Seth Ambroz jumped on the first pitch for a 2 run double.  Rhodus walked.  Following a wild pitch Ambroz was thrown out and Rhodus advanced to second base.  Ben Taxdahl was walked before a strikeout ended the threat.

Final line totals:       St. Patrick 5 runs  8 hits  2 errors 9 runners left, 6 scoring position
Urbank     1 run  3 hits  3 errors   4 runners left, 1 scoring position
