The Northfield Raiders turned a close game into a 8-1 win at Red Wing Wednesday evening.

Tegan Mellgren, senior, pitched all 7 innings allowing 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2 batters.  He threw 104 pitches, 66 strikes. Mellgren also had 2 hits at the plate.

The Raiders totaled 13 hits led by Ryan Cahoon, junior, with 3 hits including a double, 3 RBI.  Seth THompson, junior, smacked 2 doubles with an RBI.  Kamden Kaiser, senior, cracked an RBI triple.  Caleb Grawe, junior, added 2 hits and an RBI.

The Wingers scored their run in the first inning.  Northfield tied the game in the second inning and added 2 runs in the third, 2 runs in the sixth and 3 runs in the 7th,

The Raiders (9-5) have three games remaining in their regular season.  The final home game is Thursday, Nay 16, 2024 against John Marshall at 5:00 p.m. They then host Stewartville Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and finish with Byron in Northfield Monday evening at 5:00 p.m.

There was a pitcher's duel in Kasson Wednesday with Winona blanking the KoMets 2-0 despite Kyle Nelson, senior, throwing a 2-hitter for Kasson-Mantorville.

The KoMets had 5 hits in the game and committed 2 errors while the Winhawks played error free ball.

Nelson finished the game throwing 95j pitches, 58 strikes.  He went 6 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned with 5 strikeouts  and 3 walks.  Grady Babcock, sophomore, threw the final inning with no hits, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Sam Graunke, junior, was the only Kasson-Mantorville player with two hits.

Carson Jones, senior, was the winning pitcher for Winona going the distance while throwing 88 pitches, 62 strikes.  He allowed 5 hits, struck out8 and did not walk any batters.

The KoMets (8-7) go to Lake City Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. game.

Winona (8-8) hosts Rochester Mayo Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and goes to Faribault Monday for a 5:00 p.m. game.
