
Rockford Class 2A 2024 Baseball Champions
The Rockford Rockets in their first-ever trip to the MSHSL State High School Baseball Tournament captured a Class 2A championship with a 6-0 win over the Foley Falcons.
Foley was seeking it's first title in it's third journey to state.
William Haas, Junior, Rockets pitcher allowed one hit with 13 strikeouts, no walks while facing one batter over the minimum. Haas threw 89 pitches in the 1:36 game at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Alexander Jennissen, Senior, was the only Foley player to get a hit.
Trey Emmerich, Senior, started on the mound for Falcons going 3 2/3 innings with 7 hits given up, 6 runs, 2 earned, striking out 7 and walking 1 batter while throwing 84 pitches.
Josiah Petersen, Senior, threw 3 1/3 innings with 2 hits allowed, no runs, 5 strikeouts, 2 walks while throwing 52 pitches.
Rockford cranked out 9 hits led by Harrison Edwards, Junior, with 3 hits, 3 RBI. Aiden Smith, Senior, cracked two triples for 3 RBI. Patrick Binnebose, junior, clubbed a double in the contest.
Rockets Head Coach Cody Hallahan (43-10) in his second season played 15 of the 18 players listed on the roster.
Mike Beier, Foley Head Coach in his 20th year is now 277-181.
The final MHSBCA Class 2A rankings had Rockford listed #2 and Foley #5. The Rockets were seeded #2 by coaches in the 2A tournament. Falcons received #4 seed and defeated Section 1AA Champion Zumbrota-Mazeppa in come-from-behind walk-off fashion.
Z-M Cougars were #13 in that final ranking. Top seed Esko (2023 Champs) were top seed, ranked #11 and won the third place game 4-1 over Le Sueur-Henderson who was rated #22 and the random draw for #3 seed Perham in the opening round.
The Perham Yellowjackets stung Z-M Cougars for Consolation Championship 8-4.
Pine Island was rated #17 in that final poll.
There was one class in Minnesota high school baseball from 1947 until 1975. Two classes started in 1976. Expanded to 3 classes in 2000 and the current 4 classes in 2016.
