Faribault Lakers Lose to St. Benedict
The St. Benedict Saints answered the Faribault Lakers scoring in the 7th inning to win 6-4 Saturday in St. Benedict. The Lakers had just tied the game at 4 runs apiece with a 3 run top of the 7th when Matt Mortenson of Minnetonka connected for a 2 run single in the bottom of the inning.
The count was full when Mortenson stroked his hit. Faribault had 12 hits, the Saints 9 hits in the D-R-S League contest.
Egan Bonde took the loss on the hill going 6 1/3 innings with 5 strikeouts, no walks, 8 hits allowed, 6 earned runs. Joey Grote pitched the rest of the game with 1 hit allowed, 3 strikeouts, no walks. Bonde threw 97 pitches, 62 strikes. Grote tallied 36 pitches, 23 strikes
Veteran Lakers catcher Dylan Valentyn hammered a solo home run in the 7th inning. His second of the season. The Lakers have 11 home runs, their record 17-11.
Nate Rost had 2 hits, an RBI. Nick Rost also achieved a RBI hit. Danny Pierce had 2 doubles in the game. Joey Grote smacked a pair of hits, Mitch Johnson also had 2 hits.
Cole Minnick of Belle Plaine threw the first 7 innings for St. Benedict allowing 11 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks. Mortenson got the save allowing 1 hit in the final two innings with 1 strikeout, 2 walks. Minnick threw 97 pitches, 63 strikes, Mortenson tossed 30 pitches, 14 strikes.
St. Benedict hosts St. Patrick 2:00 p.m. today. The Saints are trying to get into the top 5 in the standings to get a first round bye. They are one game behind New Prague.
