The Wanamingo Jacks are a game away from winning the Twin Rivers League thanks to 5-0 and 7-5 wins today over the Owatonna Aces in Wanamingo.

Gavin Roosen pitched the shutout, Sam Roosen got the win in the second game in relief of Brady Anfinson.  KDHL broadcast the second game of the doubleheader.

The Jacks finish their regular season Sunday against the Winona Chiefs in Wanamingo.  It will be free hot dogs for everybody at Memorial Field in Wanamingo.

After their 5-0 win in game one the Jacks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two playing on the visitors side of the half inning.

Right handed pitcher Clay Leidall of Owatonna saw Peder Sviggum single to right start the game.  Sam Roosen was then hit by a pitch on a 1-2 count.  Eric Swiggum stroked a 0-1 count pitch for an RBI single.

Alex Roosen hit an RBI single before Gavin Roosen hit into a fielder's choice. Wanamingo starting pitcher Brady Anfinson grounded out resulting in the final run of the inning scoring before a ground out ended the top half of the first inning.

Anfinson was locked in early retiring the first 8 batters faced with 5 strikeouts.

In the top of the third inning Sam Roosen walked to open the inning.  Following a fly out Alex Roosen crushed a 0-1 count pitch over the left field fence for a two run home run giving Anfinson a 5 run lead to work with.

Anfinson allowed just one hit over the first four innings and appeared to be heading to a easy victory.

The Aces have had a rough season but showed some grit when they opened the bottom of the 5th with back to back singles.

Anfinson then got two outs to keep the possible shutout within reach but he hit #9 in the order batter Cody Johnson on a 0-1 count pitch, then fell behind Eric Benson 2-0 before he hammered a three run double.

Anfinson fell behind 2-0 to Kody Kiel of Medford who hit a no doubt 2 run home run over the left field fence.  The game was tied at 5 runs apiece after 5 innings of the scheduled 7 inning game due to the doubleheader.

Brady Anfinson opened the top of the 6th inning with a 1-1 count double.  With one out Gavin Sommer singled to place runners at the corners.  With two outs Sviggum lifted a 2-2 count pitch just over the infield to score Anfinson.

Sam Roosen went to the mound for the Jacks  in the 6th inning.  AJ Vandereide had a two out single that did no damage in the inning thanks in large part to an outstanding catch in centerfield by Gavin Roosen going back on a hard hit ball off the bat of Christian Nieves.

In the top of the 7th inning Alex Roosen reached base on a error.  With two outs Anfinson clubbed a RBI double to give his team some apparent cushion going into the bottom of the inning.

Owatonna Designated Hitter Jake Hines opened the inning with a 2-1 count double.  Roosen got his only strikeout before Benson lined out to Sviggum in left.  It was another great catch in the outfield.

Anfinson threw 79 pitches, 56 strikes in his 5 innings of work with 6 strikeouts, no walks, a hit batter, 5 hits allowed.  All 5 runs were earned.  He entered the game with a 1.04 Earned Run Average,

Roosen threw 29 pitches, 19 strikes over the last two innings with 1 strikeout, no walks, 2 hits and no runs allowed for his first win of the season.

Owatonna's Leidall went the distance throwing 76 pitches, 52 strikes, no strikeouts, 1 walk, 3 hit batters, 8 hits allowed, 6 earned runs.

The Aces fell to 2-13 overall.  Wanamingo is 13-3 overall 12-3 in the Twin Rivers League.  They pulled into a tie with the Rochester Roadrunners after their fifth straight win including a 10-0 victory last Monday in Rochester.

It could mean the top seed in the Section 5C playoffs if the Jacks win Sunday.  The sweep of the Aces assures Wanamingo of avoiding the preliminary round next week.

The Section 5C Tournament will be played in Cannon Falls and Red Wing.

Maybe you can afford this.  I know it's well out of my league.
