Rita Olson, Chair of the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary Book Fair and hospital Communications Director Betsy Spethmann are guests on Thursday's KDHL AM Minnesota program.  Spethmann tells KDHL some of the first people to attend the event last year came from Iowa for the sale.

Donations are still coming in and will be accepted through this Saturday with the sale at the Northfield Ice Arena taking place April 23 through April 27.  In addition to books this event features DVDs, CDs and Vinyl.  Nearly 70,000 items will be sold this year with 30 categories of books filling 280 tables.  All are sorted and displayed for easy browsing.

Over 500 volunteers make this event possible providing 4,000 hours of work sorting the books and organizing them so the sale floor is easy to navigate and fun to explore.

Money raised benefits Northfield Hospital.  This year proceeds help fund a Modular Airway Trainer and a SimMan Patient Simulator for high-tech training for Northfield Hospital providers and staff in emergency care and a range of other medical procedures.  Cost of the items $43,000.

The Hospital Auxiliary also plans to donate $10,000 to the Northfield Rescue Squad Association to help fund a new heavy-duty rescue truck.

In it's 58th year the Auxiliary Book Fair has raised over one million dollars since 1961.
