Morristown Man Injured in Accident
The Rice County Sheriff's Office reports a 61 year old Morristown man suffered critical injuries in a collision with a pickup while on his motorcycle.
The accident call came in about 2:57 p.m. Sunday. It happened in the 11000 Block of 245th Street West or Jackson Avenue in Morristown Township.
The Rice County Sheriff's Department News Release states, "Both were traveling westbound on 245th Street West when the pickup ran into the motorcycle. The adult male on the motorcycle was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. People in the pickup were not injured."
The News Release continues, "The male party was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The incident is still under investigation at this time."
Assisting the Rice County Sheriff's Office at the scene were Morristown Fire/Rescue, North Ambulance, North Air Care, Minnesota State Patrol.
The motorcycle operator was identified by authorities to be Allan C. Schwartz of Morristown. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The pickup driver was Corey A. McKenna, 18, of Waterville, Mn.
I went to the scene of the crash and spoke with a couple people who lived in the nearest house to the accident. They stated Schwartz was their Uncle and the motorcycle was actually a dirt bike.
Just as the Sheriff's Office News Release stated both vehicles were heading West on Jackson Avenue or 245th Street West. They said Schwartz was turning into a field drive when the pickup which was behind him was attempting to pass and struck the motorbike.
Both the motorbike and pickup ended up in and near the south ditch.
Please keep Schwartz in your thoughts and prayers.
Here are a couple photos of markings from a Accident Reconstructionist and a photo of a view from the apparent end of the crash looking east to show it was a straight stretch of roadway.
These show why I love Minnesota most of the time.
