It was not the prettiest game you'll ever see but Kenyon-Wanamingo girls basketball Head Coach Jake Wieme said, "A win is a win."  The Knights won 45-42 over the Triton Cobras scoring in the final seconds to capture their first victory of the season.  The game was played in Dodge Center.

The difference in the game was clearly the free throw line where Kenyon-Wanamingo was 19 of 28 while Triton finished 3 of 4 in what was a very physical game.  At one point I thought during a timeout the music was going to be Olivia Newton-John's "Physical."

K-W sophomore Tess Erlandson earned the Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the Game by delivering a 8 for 8 performance at the free throw line.  Erlandson finished with 20 points.

Junior Stella Rechtzigel added 17 points, connecting on 7 of 10 free throws.  Rechtzigel also defended 6'1 sophomore Brylee Iverson well in the paint forcing her to take difficult angled shots in the post.

Iverson led the Cobras with 17 points and fouled out of the game with 2.6 seconds to go.  That foul put junior Julia Dahl at the free throw line where she made the first and missed the second.  Rechtzigel got the rebound and scored as the buzzer sounded.

Both teams are very young so we will probably see these type battles in the future.

Triton freshman Gabby Molina finished with 11 points, freshman Jozey Boe had 5 points.

The Cobras fell to 2-8 in the league, 3-10 overall.  The Knights are 1-9 in conference play, 1-11 overall.

The game was filled with turnovers.  25 for Kenyon-Wanamingo, 24 for Triton. The Knights scored 17 points, the Cobras 11 points off the turnovers.

K-W hosts Faribault Bethlehem Academy Monday night in a game to be broadcast on KDHL 920 AM and now available at 94.7 FM as well as on the KDHL App.
