Hear Ashley McBryde’s New Single, ‘One Night Standards’
The narrator of Ashley McBryde's new song "One Night Standards" lays out hook-up ground rules to a short-term lover. She plays tough, but McBryde's emotional delivery gives away her character's true nature: She's the one who's afraid of getting hurt by a motel rendezvous.
Readers can press play above to hear "One Night Standards." McBryde co-wrote the song with Nicolette Hayford and Shane McAnally. Rock-minded country producer Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Miranda Lambert) worked his magic on a recording that reaches its crescendo with a short but sweet guitar solo.
In all, McBryde tells a moving tale of forced detachment when she sings “I ain’t gonna ask where your ring is / The thing is, we all got secrets” and “I don’t even care if you’re here when I wake up." This blend of tough-mindedness and tenderness should draw coveted comparisons to the great Tammy Wynette's cast of vividly described female characters.
"One Night Standards" comes from a new album from McBryde, which will be her second major-label release. A press release reports that the project is due out in early 2020.
The Friday (Aug. 30) arrival of "One Night Standards" caps off an exciting week for McBryde, who earned a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards on Wednesday (Aug. 28). The up-and-comer was in New York City to help the Country Music Association reveal this year's nominees list on Good Morning America.
McBryde's new single's release also coincides with the release of Trisha Yearwood's Every Girl album, which features Yearwood and Patty Loveless' interpretation of McBryde's "Bible and a .44." The new song should drum up some buzz for McBryde's upcoming appearance on Miranda Lambert's 2019 Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour.
