The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights opened their renovated field tonight with a 21-6 victory over the Cleveland Clippers on POWER 96 Radio.  The Knights went right down the field on their opening drive after the defense pinned the Clippers deep on their first offensive series.

Kenyon-Wanamingo started their opening drive at the 50 yard line.  6'0 160 pound junior quarterback Luke Berg connected with Tyler Craig for 37 yards on the drive capped with a 4 yard touchdown run by 5'10 150 pound sophomore Josh Schmidt.

The Knights second score was a 2 yard plunge by Craig.  In that drive which started on their 18 yard line Berg connected on a 30 yard pass to Craig and 3 passes for 34 yards to 5'9 150 pound senior Tate Erlandson.

Kenyon-Wanamingo led 14-0 at the half.   Knights Head Coach Jake Wieme was impressed with the play of his big, athletic offensive line.  The Schmidt and Craig touchdowns sported nice holes for the backs to run through.

The Knights final touchdown was scored with 6:09 to go in the third quarter. Craig finished a 53 yard drive with a 4 yard touchdown run.

Cleveland's only score came after they started a drive at the K-W 30 yard line.  With 8:54 to go in the game Clippers 5'9 175 pound junior quarterback Alex McCabe hit 5'11 145 junior Isaac Mueller on a 6 yard slant pass.

Clippers Head Coach Erik Hermanson, a 1989 Waterville-Elysian graduate told POWER 96 after playing 9 man during the regular season and 11 man in the playoffs they decided to play an 11 man schedule.  Hermanson said there are significant differences between 9 man and 11 man football and, "It's not fair to the kids" to make them play the different schemes.

Tyler Craig finished the game with 70 yards rushing on 12 attempts and two scores.  Josh Schmidt ran 9 times for 31 yards and a touchdown.  Junior Bray Olson added 30 yards on 8 attempts.  Tate Erlandson 3 carries for 16 yards.  Josh Johnson 2 carries for 19 yards.

Tate Erlandson caught 5 passes for 57 yards.  Craig 2 catches for 67 yards, junior Casey Wesbur 1 reception for 4 yards.

Berg threw 14 passes with 8 completions for 128 yards.

Our Held Bus Service of Kenyon offensive players of the game were Josh Schmidt, Tyler Craig and Tate Erlandson.  The defensive player of the game was Carter Quam.

The Maring Auction Company of Kenyon offensive lineman of the game was Owen Hilke.  The defensive lineman of the game Armani Tucker.  The special teams player of the game was kicker Kevin Vazquez, a perfect 3 for 3 on extra points.

Kenyon-Wanamingo travels to Winona Cotter next Friday while Cleveland hosts United South Central.
