The Cannon Falls Bombers took awhile to get started Thursday night in Zumbrota but when the dust settled the Bombers had a 36-13 win.  The Bombers are coming off a season when they went to the state tournament.  Head Coach Danny Meyers told KDHL during the Cannon Falls Coaches Show last Saturday many of the key players from the state team are gone but the cupboard is definitely not bare.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa was riddled with injuries last season.  The Cougars started the game with the first score and led 13-7 before the Bombers scored the next 29 points, all in the second half.  Z-M senior Calvin Voxland got the first score of the 2019 season for his team on a 9 yard run with 6:04 to go in the first quarter.  The extra point was unsuccessful.

Cannon Falls answered with a 34 yard run by Trenton Matthies with 4:22 to go in the first half.  Sam Ludden booted the extra point.  With 2:38 left in the second quarter Cougars junior quarterback William Holm hit senior receiver Zach Hutton for a 74 yard touchdown pass.  Z-M converted the extra point to take a 13-7 halftime lead.

In the second half Cannon Falls had all the scoring.  Kade Holt a 21 yard run with 8:48 to go in the third quarter.  Ludden kick good.

Matthies then had a 4 yard run with 1:55 to go in the quarter.  The Bombers Jake Dommeyer hit Kade Holt for a pass and two point conversion.

Matthies rambled for 50 yards with 8:29 to go in the game.  Ludden kick good.

Riley Keenan had the final Cannon Falls score with 2:59 to go.  Ludden kick good.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa finished the game with 73 yards rushing and 158 yards passing.

Cannon Falls collected 424 yards on the ground with Matthies contributing 150 yards and Holt 168.

Jake Dommeyer attempted two passes for the Bombers and connected once for 18 yards.  Dommeyer led the defense with 2.5 sacks and 5 total tackles.

Cannon Falls legends Rod Johnson and Keith Meyers had the call for KDHL.

The Bombers host Pine Island next Friday.

Tonight's featured game is Northfield at Rochester Mayo with Mark Dorenkamp on the call.  Next Friday the Zumbrota-Mazeppa at Triton game is featured on the Mighty 920.
