Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn stops by the KDHL Studio today to talk Halloween and deer opener safety.

The Minnesota firearms deer season begins this weekend.

Halloween is tonight and I'm sure the sheriff will piggyback on what Kenyon Police Chief Lee Sjolander told us during this morning's Kenyon-Wanamingo area news.

Of course nothing can ruin a hunt faster than an accident. Because hunting involves firearms, knives, and arrows and is often conducted in cold and wet weather in some of the state's most remote areas, hunters should take particular care to prepare before heading out for a day in the woods or wetlands.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has an online hunter education course that is a very good reference for all hunters and the best part is it's free. Just click on www.hunterexam.com/usa/minnesota/ to get the free course. It contains some awesome information for hunters of all ages.

The DNR recommends all hunters consider taking an advanced hunter education class to learn the latest hunting techniques along with safety tips.
