Faribault Lakers Lose Another DRS Home Game
The Faribault Lakers lost their 4th straight DRS League game at Bell Field Tuesday night. The loss dropped their overall record to 13-14.
The Webster Sox scored the go-ahead run on 3 consecutive Faribault errors in the 7th inning and another error led directly to a run in the 8th inning of their 4-2 victory.
The Sox scored their first run in the third inning off Lakers starter lefty Egan Bonde who started the inning with a strikeout of the #9 batter.
Eric Thorberg bunted successfully for a hit following a infield hit by Brooks Prochaska. The second out was recorded but cleanup hitter Will Arndt singled to left on a 0-1 count pitch to bring home Thorberg.
The Lakers would tie the game in the bottom of the third inning off Webster left-handed starter Jake Bellile.
With one out #9 batter Zander Fitzsimmons was walked and erased at second base on a ground ball hit by Blake Langerud. The Sox couldn't turn the double play to get the speedy center fielder.
Danny Pierce stroked a 1-0 count double to right center scoring Langerud.
Webster scored the next run of the game in the 7th inning. Following a single to start the inning an out was recorded on a pop up in the infield. Thorberg reached on a error.
Prochaska hit a ground ball to first base resulting in a throwing error to second. Peter Tveite jumped on the first pitch also and ended up at second base because of an error on the throw from third base. The Sox scored on the play to take the lead.
Bonde deserved a better fate. He allowed just one earned run, two runs total before exiting after 7 innings with 4 strikeouts, no walks, 8 hits allowed on 94 pitches, 72 strikes.
Joe Grote took the mound in the 8th inning which opened with a 0-2 count single by Jake Ekness followed by a walk of William Wardham. Peter Grassl executed a bunt advancing the runners.
The next batter was retired but during the at bat Ekness who had stolen second base got a great jump and headed for third. The throw from the catcher was high allowing Ekness to score.
#9 batter Ben Groff hit a 1-2 count pitch for a RBI single to make the score 4-1 in favor of Webster.
Following a up and down in order top of the 9th inning the Lakers opened the bottom of the inning with a ground ball off the bat of Grote resulting in a error. Nate Rost then hit a full count pitch for a single.
The Sox made a pitching change to hard throwing Peter Tveite. After back to back strikeouts Mitch Johnson came in to pinch hit and clubbed a 0-1 fastball for a RBI single.
A grounder resulting in a fielder's choice ended the game.
Bellile went the first 4 2/3 innings with 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 3 hits allowed while throwing 64 pitches, 38 strikes.
Webster brought in lefty Dave Picha to get the final out of the 5th inning. He pitched until the 9th going 3 plus innings with 1 hit allowed, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 59 pitches thrown, 38 strikes.
Tveite earned the save with 16 pitches to the final four batters of the game. 10 strikes.
Bonde took the tough loss.
Grote went 2 innings allowing 2 hits with 3 strikeouts, 1 walk. 33 pitches thrown, 22 strikes.
Faribault is at St. Benedict Saturday for a Noon game then go to Webster Sunday for another Noon contest before wrapping up their regular season in New Prague Monday at 7:30 p.m.
