Bethlehem Academy Softball Rolls Over W-E-M
The Cardinals defeated the Buccaneers 13-0 in five innings Thursday at Alexander Park in Faribault.
Morgan Wilson, sophomore threw a three hit shutout with 8 strikeouts for Bethlehem Academy.
Wilson had the best changeup I've seen her throw this season with the first six outs for W-E-M being strikeouts, She struck out 7 of the firsst 10 batters she faced.
Wilson also clobbered the ball at the plate with a three-singles day while driving in four runs.
Alix Velzke, 8th grade, started in the pitcher's circle for Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.
She got the first two outs of the bottom of the first inning before ther Cardinals got a hit parade going when Anna Tobin got a bloop single to right field.
It was followed by a full count walk of Kate Trump, Morgan Wilson stroked a two-strike RBI single and Josie Rose achieved a RBI double.
Izzy Slechta, junior, got the Buccaneers first hit in the second inning when she hit a solid single to right field bbreaking up Wilson' strikeout streak at five.
Velzke allowed no runs in the second inning befor BA started the bottom of the third inning with another Trump walk. Trump stole second base then Wilson hammered a RBI single.
Sarah Tobin hit a single to right field. Caitlin Bothun smacked a 2-run single, then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lindsay Hanson.
The Buccaneers had six total baserunners in the game. They were able to achieve a single by Emma Ready, junior, to start the bottom of the 5th inning and a two out single that inning by Janessa Baumgarten, senior.
My scorebook had 13 hits, 2 errors for Bethlehem Academy and 3 hits, 3 errors for WEM.
Wilson threw 76 pitches, 49 strikes in the lopsided victory.
Velzke went 3 1/3 innings with 71 pitches thrown, 51 strikes, She had no strike outs, 2 walks and 13 hits allowed.
The Bucs fell to 6-6. Bethlehem Academy is 12-1.
