The Faribault Falcon volleyball team clearly was not on the same page Tuesday night from the very beginning of their match with the Mankato East Cougars. The Cougars cruised to 25-15, 25-13, 25-13 wins.

There was no way to sugarcoat this one. Faribault just flat out did not play well in any facet of the game. Their setting was poor, passing almost non-existent (which doesn't help the setting) and, of course, when you don't pass or set well your hitters can never get into any rhythm.

Mankato East senior middle hitter Isabella Klabough set the tone early, reeling off seven points to start the first set. A set in which Faribault never had a lead.

Junior Cougar setter Maya Mukamuri burned the Falcons time after time on dumps for kills. Unofficially, I had her marked down for seven dump kills on the night.

Faribault fairly consistently got some hands on balls at the net to slow them down, but the back row players were too slow to react to those balls and it didn't matter who was in the back row. It was simply one of those nights where nothing clicked and everybody was in a bit of a funk.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the match courtesy of Faribault State Farm agents Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn were Lauren Isaacson and Elana Palmer because they led the team in points on a night when points for Faribault were at an absolute premium.

The loss snapped a two-match conference win streak and dropped Faribault to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the Big Nine while Mankato East is 5-10 overall and 2-3 in Big Nine play also.

The Falcons host Red Wing on Thursday at 7PM and Mankato East goes to Rochester John Marshall on Thursday.

Thursday I'll be in the Castle at Kenyon-Wanamingo High School for an Hiawatha Valley League showdown between the Class 2A top-ranked Knights and state-rated Stewartville.
