Teenage Girl Arrested For St. Charles School Threat
St. Charles, MN (KROC-AM News) - Police in St. Charles say they have identified the person responsible for leaving a threat of school violence in the bathroom at St. Charles High School on Monday.
A news release says a 16-year-old St. Charles High School student has admitted writing the threat on a mirror in the girl's bathroom "as a result from a dare." The teenage girl was taken into custody today and her case has been referred to the Winona County Attorney's Office for possible charges, which could include threats of violence, disorderly conduct, and criminal damage to property.
After the threat was discovered by another student Monday afternoon, the St. Charles Police Department and Winona County Sheriff's Office assigned officers to the school for increased security while investigators worked to determine if the threat was legitimate. It stated the person was going to shoot up the school on Friday.
After reviewing security camera video recordings and interviewing a number of students, St. Charles police were notified yesterday that another student had received a Snapchat message from a fellow student indicating her possible involvement. Today, a second student stepped forward and told school officials that she had received a message from the same girl indicating she was involved, which led investigators to interview the 16-year-old suspect.
While there is no longer a threat to public safety, the St. Charles Police Department says it will continue to have extra patrols inside and outside the community schools for the peace of mind of students, staff, and parents.
