The St. Patrick Irish scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning today and never looked back in a 11-1 seven inning victory over the Faribault Lakers.  It was the first loss in DRS League action for the Lakers.

Faribault started making noise in the first inning when Matt Lane took a 0-2 count pitch off the outside corner and placed it in left field for a one out single.  Danny Pierce smacked a two out single but all three outs by the Lakers in the inning were strikeouts.

Jimmy Roberts started the game on the hill for Faribault.  The Irish first batter Jack Friedges was hit by a pitch.  Kyle Rhodus hit a single to right that was misplayed followed by a RBI double off the bat of Seth Ambroz.

After a line out and strike out looking, Roberts had a 0-2 count against Ryan Friedges before he clubbed a RBI double.  The inning continued after it looked like a ball was going to be caught in left field to end the inning, but was lost in the sun scoring another run.

Ten batters went to the plate in the bottom of the first inning for St. Patrick.

Collin Denk went the distance on the mound for St. Patrick.  The Lakeville native who pitched at Minnesota State Mankato allowed 5 hits and no earned runs while fanning 8, walking 2 and hitting a batter.  Denk threw 102 pitches, 74 for strikes.

It was a picture perfect weather day with a great crowd at Bonin Field.  Concessions were being served and enjoyed by many.

St. Patrick scored another run in the second inning with back to back hits by Matt Ambroz and Jordan Goracke.

Roberts left the game following a 4 run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning made the score 9-0. Another outfield error led to a run followed by a hit batter and 2 RBI double for Goracke.

Jack Helgeson saw his first action on the hill for Faribault.  The first batter facing Helgeson was Ryan Friedges.  With two strikes on him Friedges hammered an RBI double closing the book on Roberts.

The Irish scored a run in the 6th off Helgeson before Porter Sartor took the ball for the 7th inning.  Following a walk to start the inning Rhodus took a 2-0 pitch and smacked a RBI double ending the game in the bottom of the 7th.

Faribault's only run came in the 6th inning when Kyle Murphy got on base to start the inning. Dylan Valentyn was hit by a pitch.  Murphy would eventually score on an error.

LIne totals were:

St. Patrick    11 runs   14 hits  2 errors

Faribault         1 run       5 hits  3 errors

Lakers host Prior Lake Mudcats Friday 7:30 p.m. then go to Webster Sunday 2:00 p.m.

St. Patrick travels to Montgomery Wednesday 8:00 p.m. then hosts Webster Saturday and Stillwater Sunday.  Both games scheduled to start 2:00 p.m.
