Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn issued a news release stating his deputies and water patrol were joined by Northfield Fire/Rescue and North Ambulance responding to a dispatch Wednesday night to the Fox Lake Public Access.  The call came in that a individual had been injured after diving into shallow water.

Dispatch received the call at 8:33 p.m. on Wednesday evening.  The Sheriff's news release says, "Upon arrival, responders found the victim being attended to by other people near a boat about 100 yards from shore.  Deputies, Water Patrol and ambulance personnel assisted in removing the victim from the water."

The victim was identified as Daniel Varness, age 48, of Faribault.  Varness was transported by air ambulance to a trauma center and his condition was unknown.

Dunn explained in the news release that Varness had attempted to dive into the water from his boat to work on the motor because it quit running.  It is believed he struck the bottom in shallow water and suffered an upper body injury.
