Rice County Redistricting Tabled by Board of Commissioners
The Rice County Board of Commissioners conducted a public hearing today on the intent to redistrict Commissioner Districts as required by law. Various organizations submitted their redistricting proposals to the county and the Rice County Election Department provided a new proposed map.
Elections Department Director Denise Anderson stated the proposal from her department passed the tests required by law.
This woman identified herself as a farmer and stated her objection to the county proposal.
Amanda Degroot of Faribault requested commissioners delay their decision to give the blind and deaf communities of the city time to go over each of the plans.
A representative of the League of Women Voters of Northfield and Cannon Falls also asked commissioners to table the matter until their next meeting.
The Faribault Area Immigrant Movement provided a proposal and so did Common Cause of Minnesota. Anderson outlined one of those for the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioners unanimously voted to table the redistricting map adoption until their April 26, 2022 meeting by continuing the current public hearing until 9:00 a.m. that day.
The various maps are available below.
