The #6 seed Faribault Falcons upended #3 seed Northfield 3-2 in extra innings today in Section 1 Class 3A competition,  Meanwhile defending Section 1 Class A champion Bethlehem Academy fell 7-6 to #15 seed Lewiston-Altura in Faribault.

An error by the Raiders in the top of the 8th inning allowed Reagan Drengenberg, senior, to start the inning on base.  Drengenberg advanced to second on a ground out.  Following the second out Olivia Smith hit a single scoring Dregenberg.

Rylee Sietsema, senior, threw 136 pitches, 84 strikes, to record the victory.  Northfield had 8 hits, 1 error, Faribault 7 hits, 2 errors.  Sietsema struck out 6 and walked 4.

Grace Mostad, sophomore, was in the pitching circle for the Raiders.  She threw 101 pitches, 73 strikes with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Smith led the Falcons offense with 2 hits, 2 RBI.  Jamie Adamek, junior, also had 2 hits.

Northfield was paced by Emma Peroutka, freshman, with a pair of hits at the top of the batting order and swiped a base.  Classmate and battery mate Lindsey Erickson had 3 hits for the Raiders and Rita Langford, senior, clubbed two hits and stole a base.

Faribault (10-10) will face #2 seed Stewartville (16-3) at Todd Park in Austin 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2023 in a winner's bracket game.  This section is double elimination from the start.

Top seed Winona got a competitive game from #8 seed Austin.  The Winhawks prevailed 3-0 and will play Kasson-Mantorville (14-6) in the other winner's bracket contest.

The KoMets were up 8-3 and persevered over Byron (11-7) by a 8-6 score.

Northfield tangles with #7 seed Red Wing and the Bears hope to avoid hibernation against Austin.  Both games are also at 3:30 p.m. in Todd Park Austin.

Lewiston-Altura (11-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead going into the sixth inning and Bethlehe Academy had the tying run at third base when the game ended.

The Cardinals of BA were charged with 6 errors while the Cardinals of LA had none.  Both teams had 8 hits in Faribault.

Morgan Wilson, junior, Threw 96 pitches, 67 strikes with 4 strikeouts, 1 walk. Only 3 of the 7 Lewiston-Altura runs were earned.

Jenna Lippert, 8th grader, knocked in two runs, Caitlin Bothun, sophomore, cracked 3 hits including a double with an RBI and Anna Cohen, junior, had a pair of hits.

BA  (13-6) plays 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2023 against #3 seed Southland (16-2) at Todd Park in Austin.  The Rebels were upset by #6 seed Wabasha-Kellogg (7-15) by a 3-1 score.

Top seed Blooming Prairie ran away from Houston 12-2.  Hayfield outlasted Kenyon-Wanamingo 2-0 in the other contest.

The Vikings (13-8) got a shutout performance from pitcher Elaina Masching, junior, throwing 83 pitches, 63 strikes with 9 strikeouts and no walks.

K-W (9-9) had 5 hits and no errors while Hayfield collected 6 hits and 2 errors.

Josie Flom, senior, also walked no Vikings batters with 3 strikeouts while throwing 71 pitches, 50 strikes.  The Knights had no players with multiple hits or any extra base hits.

Hayfield got an RBI double from Kenna Selk, junior, who had two hits and Betsy Gillette, sophomore, had a double.  Selk also stole a base.

The Vikings go up against top seed Blooming Prairie (17-4) 5:30 p.m. at Todd Park in Austin.

Kenyon-Wanamingo plays Houston in an elimination bracket game with the winner playing again at 7:00 p.m.

Section 1AA games were moved to Thursday in Rochester.

Section 1 Class 4A went according to seeding except one game.  #1 Farmington rolled past Rochester John Marshall 15-1.  #2 seed New Prague blanked Rochester Mayo 7-0.

#3 seed Lakeville South lost to Rochester Century 2-1.  #4 seed Owatonna defeated Lakeville North 10-4.

Next round is at Todd Park in Austin with winner's and elimination bracket games at 3:30 p.m.

Section 2A softball results:  New Ulm Cathedral(1-18) 16-0 over Martin Luther-Granada Huntly-East Chain/Truman.  #2 seed United South Central (18-1) shut out Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (1-14) by an 8-0 score.

#3 seed Martin County West (11-6) rolled by Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger (3-13).  #4 seed Springfield (13-7) downed Minnesota Valley Lutheran (6-12) while #9 seed Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove (8-9) defeated #8 seed Sleepy Eye St. Mary's (7-12) with a 8-4 score.

Next round is Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the high seed.  New Ulm Cathedral vs. RRC/WWG, Sleepy Eye at Springfield, USC hosts Cleveland and Madelia is at Martin County West.

Section Class 2A results:  Tri-City United defeated Blue Earth Area 12-5.  Fairmont over Sibley East 7-4, Le Sueur-Henderson rolled past St, James 14-0.  Jordan got by Medford 4-0, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva upset St. Clair/Loyola 17-10.

Maple River blanked Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 5-0 and Belle Plaine bested Waseca 7-0.

LCWM (17-2) collides with Tri-City United (11-9).  Fairmont (11-10) tangles with Le Sueur-Henderson (10-10).  NRHEG (6-11) goes to Jordan (12-8) and Maple River (11-8) is at Belle Plaine (19-2)
