I was concerned how the day was going to go when Tom Weeks, who normally calls the Kenyon-Wanamingo wrestling action, showed up today unable to talk. But he lined up Joe Rechtzigel, father of Luke Rechtzigel to sub in.

Things went for the most part according to plan for the Kenyon-Wanamingo wrestlers on Saturday at the Section 2A tournament at United South Central in Wells. The first task was to get by Maple River. The Knights did that 64-3. Here is how that went.

Kenyon vs. Maple River results:

106: Jeron Matson pinned Trevor Pearson
113: Ethan Cota pinned Reise Hanson
120: Seth Brossard dec. over Dillon Schmidt
126: Jared Clawiter pinned Cody Walters
132: Bradley Kish 3-2 dec. Lincoln Arndt
138: Tyler Ryan 9-0 dec. Nathan Moore
145: Matthew Houglum pinned Jared Moore
152: Dylan Craig pinned Dustyn Schmidt
160: Peyton Hilke wins on forfeit
170: Ted Androli pins Andrew Beck
182: Noah Decker (mr) 3-2 Luke Rechtzigel
195: Riley Donkers 2-1 dec. Lukas Trio
220: Seth Donkers pins Bill Karels
Hwt: Austin Jackson 4-2 dec. Zack Garlow

Then there was the Blue Earth Bucs. They defeated Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial. If the Knights were going to break the curse of being runner-up in the section, they needed to defeat the Bucs. And they did.

106: Jeron Matson pins Caden Ochsendorf
113: Ethan Cota 12-2 dec. Joe Schavey
120: Seth Brossard 10-2 dec. Dalton Nagel
126: Jared Clawiter pins Adam Legred
132: Cole Klinkner (be) 9-7 OT dec. Bradley Kish
138: Tyler Ryan major dec. over Akerira Morrow
145: Zach Buseman (be) 4-2 dec over Matt Houglum
152: Peyton Hilke pins Rylee Mcguire
160: Dylan Craig pins Wyatt Tungland
170: Ted Androli pins Roger Ziegler
182: Luke Rechtzigel dec. 6-2 Jesus Quintero
195: Jared Armon 5-1 dec. Riley Donkers
220: Seth Donkers pins Jordan Huse
285: Austin Jackson pins Cornelio Damion

Kenyon-Wanamingo wins 56-9. Individuals are next weekend and the state tournament is February 25-27. Coach Matt Ryan summed it up by saying, "This year it's OK that the ribbons on our medals don't match our uniforms." The medals the past six years were red, same color as the Knights' uniforms.

I just feel bad I forgot to get the name of the wrestler that was holding the trophy.
