Hundreds of Pounds of Prescription Drugs Collected in Rochester
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Clinic hosted the event Saturday morning at the turnaround area at the Mayo Clinic Gonda Building. Authorities say the take-back event prevents those drugs from falling into the wrong hands.
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Captain Tim Parkin said earlier this week that 471 cars dropped off 695 pounds of old or unused prescription drugs during the four-hour event. He called it a good turnout and said event organizers also gave participants literature with prescription drug drop-off information.
Parkin said residents who missed Saturday’s drop-off event can discard their unused prescriptions at a 24/7 drug drop box at the Olmsted County Law Enforcement Center. He said several pharmacies in the area also have drop boxes.
