Goodhue Fastpitch Maximizes Hits In Win Over Bethlehem Academy
After an hour storm delay the Goodhue Wildcats hosted Faribault Bethlehem Academy Tuesday night. The fans were treated to a very good game with the Wildcats winning 5-2.
The Cardinals had eighth grade Morgan Wilson in the pitching circle for the entire game. Wilson threw well enough to win against a very athletic, good hitting Wildcats team.
The right handed Wilson struck out 6, walked one, scattered 5 hits over six innings while throwing 85 pitches, 66 strikes. She also clubbed a no doubt home run in the top of the third inning to give her Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
Bethlehem Academy scored their first run in the second inning when sophmore Reagan Kangas was hit by a pitch with one out and scored on a single by Anna Tobin.
Goodhue had nine batters come to the plate in a 4 run third inning that featured three hits.
Alandra Hinsch was walked to start the inning. With one out starting Wildcats pitcher Emily Doerhoefer smashed a gap hit to right center putting runners at second and third base. Karli Zetah flied out to center. Hinsch scored on the play. Shortstop Tori Rehder struck out but ended up at first base when the ball got by the catcher. It would have been the third out.
Cleanup hitter Ariann Thomforde stroked a single in front of an RBI single by Anika Shafer scoring a run and Hanah Gadient hit an RBI single to finish the scoring in the innng.
The Wildcats would add a run in the 5th inning when Thomforde got an infield single with two outs. Shafer hit a towering fly ball to right field that went off the glove of the outfielder to score Thomforde.
Rehder went to the pitching circle for Goodhue following the fourth inning allowing one hit the rest of the game. Doerhoefer allowed six hits, 2 runs over four innings with 2 strikeouts, a hit batter and no walks throwing 60 pitches, 41 strikes. She got the win.
Rehder threw 45 pitches over the next three innings, 28 strikes with three strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 hit to earn the save.
Goodhue is 5-1 following the non-conference win. Bethlehem Academy fell to 2-5 overall.
Anna Tobin and Morgan Wilson were chose our Malecha's Auto Body Crunch Time Faribault players of the game. Wilson was also chosen for our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the Game for her no doubt home run.

The Cardinals are scheduled to go to Medford Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. Gopher Conference game.
The Wildcats game against fellow Hiawatha Valley League member Rochester Lourdes Thursday has been postponed due to COVID issues at Lourdes.
