Faribault Softball Falls to State Powerhouse in a Battle

The Winona Winhawks are a perennial superpower in Class 3A fastpitch softball.  Monday night the Faribault Falcons gave them all they wanted in competitive game.

The #4 ranked Winhawks pulled away late to win 5-1.  The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning at North Alexander Park in Faribault on a Rylee Sietsema double that scored Regan Dregenberg.

That score held up until the 5th inning when Winona plated 2 runs.  Olivia Poulin homered and singled for two runs batted in.

Sietsema might have grown tired toward the end of the contest.  The senior pitcher threw 135 pitches, 81 strikes with 4 strikeouts, 5 walks, 7 hits allowed over the 7 innings.

Lauren Kreckow pitched for Winona, allowing 4 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1 batter.

Winona was aggressive on the basepaths, achieving six stolen bases.

Sietsema had two hits and Olivia Smith and Jamie Adamek smacked the others for the Falcons.

Faribault hosts Albert Lea Tuesday, May 7, 2024 with a 5:00 p.m. first pitch scheduled.
