Cannon Falls Baseball Blanks Randolph
The Battle of Byllesby has been held for many years between the Randolph Rockets and Cannon Falls Bombers.
When it was first established, I had a trophy made by Chicago Ed's Jewelry in Cannon Falls that stayed with the winning team.
That was before both teams were placed in the same section adding more to the friendly rivalry between two communities just 5 miles apart.
The Bombers had Jack Meyers, senior on the hill for their 4-0 win, and Rockets countered with Tristan Zingler, junior.
Meyrs struck out 14 batters, hit one and gave up 6 hits while throwing 100 pitches, 73 strikes,
Zingler tallied 5 strikeouts with one walk and two hit batters. He threw 104 pitches, 70 strikes. Cannon Falls clubbed 11 hits.
The Bombers lead-off batter Preston Schoenfelder had three singles, two of the infield variety including in the first inning where he scored on an error off a Ryan Hjellming, junior, hit ball.
Cannon Falls added a pair of runs in the 5th inning after Jack Meyers led the inning with a single, he was thrown out trying to steal second base.
Tyler Meyers was at the plate and followed with a 2-1 count single, Grady Meyers stroked a 2-0 count single. Following a strikeout there was an error that loaded the bases and Magnus Swanson batting 9th connected tort a 2 RBI single.
The Bombers added another run in the 6th inning. After Micah Nelson stroked a 0-2 count single to start the inning there was a ground out. Jack Meyers hammered an RBI double and was stranded there.
Randolph did have their chances to score but Myers would slam the door each time.
Zingler hit an 0-2 count single to open the third inning, then stole second base. He would be stranded at third when Meyers achieved back-to-back strikeouts.
Following a one out single by #9 hitter Kylan Goering-Barry, Meyers threw the ball wide of first base for an error. Goering-Barry advanced to third on a ground out.
Meyers fanned his 6th batter to end the inning.
Following a 3-2 count hit batter with one out in the 5th inning designated hitter Kyle Peine hit an infield single placing runners at the corners with one out/
Meyers fanned his 10th batter and coaxed a ground out to end that threat.
In the 6th inning Randolph had back-to-back singles by Zingler and Jack Freeburg with two outs. Meyers ended the inning with his 11th strikeout.
Meyers recorded three strikeouts in the final inning with Goering-Barry hitting a two out single.
Meyers had 5 strikeouts looking.
Cannon Falls is 8-3 with 8 straight wins, Randolph now 7-4 on the season.
