The Faribault Falcons boys basketball team needed every point in a 61-60 win tonight over the Rochester John Marshall Rockets at Nomeland Gym.

The Falcons were 19 of 26 led by senior John Palmer's 15 of 15 at the free throw line.  The Rockets finished 7 of 14 for the game. Palmer totaled 27 points in the win.

Faribault had double digit leads twice in the first half but John Marshall sophomore Logan Tuckner hit a bank shot three at the buzzer before the half ended.  The Falcons led 30-28.  The Rockets and Falcons traded leads in the second half.

Palmer had no field goals for a long stretch of the second half but kept his team close by swishing most of his free throws (he was 4 of 4 in the first half, 11 of 11 in the second half).  Down the stretch John Marshall would not foul him when he drove to the basket so Faribault took advantage.

The Rockets did have multiple opportunities to win in the final 30 seconds but Faribault got the stop to secure the victory.

Falcons Head Coach Eric Hildebrandt has been telling us all season they needed to get more point production out of their big posts.  6'5 Junior Devin Lockerby and 6'5 senior Owen Leet.  They combined for 18 points in the win.  Lockerby had 12, Leet 6 points.  They joined Palmer as our Malecha's Auto Body of Faribault crunch time Falcons of the game.

Hunter Nelson secured a late game steal for our Cashwise Foods of Owatonna delivery of the game.

It was Faribault's first win of the season in 8 games.  John Marshall fell to 2-6 with the loss.

I really thought the Tom's Lock and Key of Faribault keys to the game boiled down to controlling the tempo and getting their posts involved on offense.  A couple of excellent post entry passes led to layups down the stretch.

Faribault hosts winless Albert Lea Friday while Rochester John Marshall travels to Austin.
