The Faribault Falcons boys basketball team will begin their second season at home Tuesday in the Section 2AAA Tournament.  The #4 seed for the Falcons is interesting because #5 seed Worthington has a 15-10 record while Faribault lost their last four games of the regular season and finished 10-16.  All four games were last week. Back to back Monday and Tuesday against Rochester Century and Rochester John Marshall and back to back Friday and Saturday against Mankato East and Winona.  All quality teams.

The  Quality Results Formula (QRF) has Worthington ranked higher. There are 3 Big 9 schools in the section.  The Trojans have won 5 of their last 6 games.  Both the Falcons and Worthington had 3 wins in the section.  Faribault swept Mankato West while Worthington lost to the Scarlets.  The Falcons defeated state ranked Northfield,

The Trojans lost to three Class 2A teams.  Faribault did not play against any Class AA or below schools.  You have to wonder how the QRF had five more points for Worthington.  Two of their other losses were to South Dakota schools (not included in the Minnesota QRF rankings).

Of the 16 Faribault losses, 10 were to state ranked teams.  They split with state ranked Northfield.  Eight of their games were against Class 4A squads with two wins.

All games are 7:00 p.m. starts.  Top seed Waseca (25-1) opens with New Ulm (6-19).  #2 seed Mankato East (22-4) faces Hutchinson (6-20).  #3 seed Marshall (21-5) plays #6 seed Mankato West (6-20).

Semifinals are Saturday.  If Faribault wins they play 6:00 p.m.  The other semifinal is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.  Both games are at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.  The championship will be March 14 at Gustavus at 7:00 p.m.
