
Faribault Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Red Wing
The Faribault Falcons won the first game 6-2, but fell in the second game 12-2 tonight at Bell Field in Faribault.
Junior Hunter Nelson got the win on the hill with Senior John Palmer going the final 1 1/3 innings. Nelson gave up 3 hits, Palmer no hits. Nelson had 5 walks, 6 strikeouts. Palmer finished with 0 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Nelson threw 100 pitches, 55 strikes. Palmer amassed 17 pitches, 11 strikes.
Nelson, Palmer and Matthis Lenway each had RBI doubles in the six hit Falcons attack. Palmer finished with 2 hits, 2 RBI. Teddy Calmer had a sacrifice fly RBI.
In the second game Faribault jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. With one out senior Zack Slinger smacked a single to center. During the Palmer at bat Slinger steals second base and scores on a Palmer single to give the Falcons the early lead.
The Wingers would respond with 3 runs in the second inning, 2 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, before Faribault scratched out a run in the bottom of the 5th.
Ayden Qualey opened the inning with a walk. He would go to second base on a wild pitch. Nelson would walk. Slinger hit into a fielder's choice with Qualey out at third base.
Calmer clubbed a double scoring Nelson. Slinger advanced to third base. A pop out ended the inning.
Red Wing tallied 12 hits, Faribault 6 in the game. The Falcons had 4 errors, Red Wing had no errors all day.
Faribault used five pitchers in the second game.
The Falcons now 3-8 go to Byron Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. game.
