The Northfield Police Department assisted the Minnesota State Patrol in responding to a reported crash Monday on Highway 19 near Carleton College.

The accident was reported 9:43 a.m.  Northfield officers discovered a car had struck a pedestrian crossing Highway 19 near a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was identified by the State Patrol as Carleton student Lucklita Theng, 22, of Northfield.

Theng was transported to the hospital for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.  She was eventually taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul according to the State Patrol report.

Northfield Area Fire and Rescue and Northfield Ambulance were also dispatched to the scene and treated Theng there before transportation.

The driver of the vehicle identified as Sandra Evelyn Titus, 79, of Northfield was not injured.

The description of the accident simply states the vehicle was," traveling westbound on Highway 19 when it collided with a pedestrian in the crosswalk."

The location in the report states "Highway 19 and 2nd Street East, Northfield, Rice County."

Northfield Police is taking the opportunity to remind all motorists Minnesota law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in a marked crosswalk and at intersections.

Pedestrians should use caution when crossing the street at all times, whether in crosswalks or not to ensure their own safety.
