Cannon Falls Falls to Red Wing in Regular Season Finale
The Cannon Falls Bears had a 1-0 lead after six innings but couldn't hold down the Red Wing Aces at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls. The Aces enjoyed a 6 run, 7th inning and won the game 10-6. The Bears used six pitchers in the game.
Both teams had their hitting shoes on with Red Wing collecting 13 hits and Cannon Falls 10. The Aces had 1 error and Bears played error free ball. Jared Woodward and Quinton Lindow threw the first six innings of shutout ball allowing 5 hits with no walks and each pitcher had 1 strikeout.
Luke Winchell came on in the 7th and was greeted by 6 hits and 6 runs in the inning while striking out a batter and walking one. Aaron Stein and Hayden Strain threw a scoreless 8th inning, Rich Burr got the ninth with 3 runs scored on 4 hits.
Aaron Johnson went 6 and 1/3 innings for the win for the Aces and Brady Schroeder got the save.
For the Bears, Alex Tauer, Zeke Williams and Luke Winchell each had 2 hits. Brock Peterson smacked a two run double.
The Aces were paced by Brady Schroeder with 3 hits, 2 RBI, Kyle Blahnik 2 hits, 3 RBI, Grant Rolen had 3 hits including a home run and 2 RBI, Brodie Smith 2 hits including a double.
Cannon Falls finishes the regular season 12-16, Red Wing is 16-12. The two teams split during the regular season with each team winning in the opponent home park. Both are in Region 5C along with members of the Twin Rivers Conference. This year 3 teams from Region 5C will advance to the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Speaking of Region 5C, Wanamingo had their 14 game win streak end in Rochester Friday night when the Rochester Roadrunners defeated them 9-6. Both teams had 11 hits. Gavin Roosen took the loss while throwing the first 4 and 1/3 innings. Roosen allowed 6 hits., 4 earned runs, walked 4, struck out 5, hit a batter. Matthew Houglum finished the game allowing 5 hits in 3 and 2/3 innings, 4 earned runs, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 hit batter.
Gavin Roosen had 3 hits, 2 doubles and an RBI, Alex Roosen added 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI, Dylan Craig collected 2 hits.
The Jacks won by forfeit against Pine Island Sunday to finish their regular season 20-4.
