The Minnesota Twins are nearly a week away from playing their first official game of the 2020 season, and they could be without one of their starters.

Byron Buxton was in centerfield tracking down a Nelson Cruz fly ball when he injured his ankle/leg. Twins beat writer Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reported that the ball landed just shy of the warning track after Buxton fell.

According to Aaron Gleeman of the Athletic, the Twins announced that Buxton had a left foot injury and more news should be available tomorrow.

Now, Twins fans won't know anything more until tomorrow after Buxton has more examinations, but when you look at Buxton's injury history it isn't pretty. He was a key part of the 2017 Twins that made it to the Wild Card game against the Yankees, a game in which Buxton got hurt and had to exit the game early.

In 2018, the Twins were looking for Buxton to build off his great 2017 season where he finished 18th in the AL MVP vote. In was only able to play in 24 games and then was limited to just 87 games in 2019.

Buxton was carted off the field during the practice Monday afternoon, and hopefully, all the examinations come back with a minor injury. Still, it is tough to see a player as talented as Buxton get injured yet again.

Dan Hayes of The Athletic reported that Twins Manager Rocco Baldelli was optimistic.

Again, hopefully, Buxton is able to play in at least part of the 60 game season. Weird things can happen in a 60 game season, and the Twins will need all of their talent to make a push at a run through the playoffs in 2020.
