Faribault Bethlehem Academy's Student Council is sponsoring an American Red Cross community blood drive Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the school's Van Orsow Auditorium.

Bethlehem Academy Activities Director Ed Friesen says, "Hosting a blood drive coincides with Bethlehem Academy's Dominican pillars of community and service."

"With a simple blood donaton, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one or neighbor."

The American Red Cross states blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims.

Friesen encourages people to join in the selfless act of giving blood.  From start to finish it's usually about an hour.

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative.  According to the Red Cross, tyoe O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.

For more information or to make an appointment to donate sign up online at redcrossblood.org with sponsor code Bethlehem Academy.

Having the blood drive during holy week is perfect because Christians believe Jesus gave his blood to save all mankind by dying on the cross.
