Rice County Community Corrections recently received a grant for more dollars than they requested.

Angela Brewer from the department reported to the County Board of Commissioners during a Committee of the Whole meeting today they asked the United States Department of Justice for $271,000 and received $400,000.

Commissioner Steve Underdahl inquired if they asked why the extra was being awarded.  Brewer replied Department Director Rick Gieseke might have the answer.

Brewer reported how the dollars will be utilized.

The 3 grant is for three years.

Brewer pointed out one of the biggest disparities for people served by community corrections is in the area of economics.

She added there are many different circumstances they see every day.

Before the meeting adjourned Commissioner Galen Malecha asked if the Highway 3 roundabout in Faribault was completed.

Rice County Highway Engineer Dennis Luebbe stepped to the podium and said he was not sure.

MnDOT set the completion date as October 13, 2023 when they started the project.
