Albert Lea’s First Lady Of Popcorn Gets A New Kidney
I was browsing social media last night while I was waiting for dinner and came across some good news concerning a familiar face to anyone who's stopped by the ever-popular Merrill's Popcorn Stand in Albert Lea. Sue Mickelson recently underwent surgery to receive a new kidney donated by none other than her husband Jon. How amazing is that?!
According to Sue's CaringBridge site two days ago on January 27th, the husband and wife duo underwent surgery, Jon to donate his kidney to his wife, and Sue to receive the kidney.
This was the culmination of several months in the making as Sue found out in the "spring of 2019 that her kidneys were failing and she would need a kidney transplant" according to the CaringBridge page.
The couple is going to be staying in Rochester at a hotel for the next few weeks to make sure everything is going well with the transplant pair. Both are currently doing well, but staying in a hotel for two weeks after surgery can be costly, and the family is looking for any donations to assist them along their journey. If you feel the urge you can donate to the couple through their GoFundMe Page here.
Not familiar with Merrill's Popcorn? KSMQ Public Television did a segment on the ever-popular popcorn stand back in June, you can watch that below.
