12 Events to Celebrate Owatonna’s GEM DAYS
Owatonna's Gem Days celebration hits full stride Thursday, July 22 through Sunday, July 25. Activities began last weekend. An information release from the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and the Owatonna Business Partnership states, "Each summer residents of Owatonna dedicate some time to celebrate our community and all of the treasures that surround us."
"This celebration has grown throughout the years to include things like Crazy Days Sidewalk Sales, kiddie parades and concerts in the park. These event have become treasures themselves and we now celebrate all of them as Owatonna GEM DAYS."
- Sidewalk sales - Enjoy great bargains at Owatonna businesses Thursday through Saturday.
- Food vendors / food trucks - Those listed to be on hand include the Steele County American Dairy Association Malt Stand, The Lunch Box, Schem's Kettlecorn, Big Red, Ole & Lena's, Kona Ice and Dimitri's Greek Gyros & Kabobs Thursday through Saturday around Central Park.
- Tours of the Orphanage Museum - Take a self-guided tour of Owatonna's treasured museum at West Hills Thursday and Friday 8 am to 5 pm.
- 11-at-7 Concert - Listen to some great, live music in Central Park Thursday evening. Bring your own lawn chair and settle back.
- Children's Mask Parade - Friday at 9:30 am on Broadway. Line up by the Owatonna Education Center, formerly Washington Elementary School. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. A crazy hair contest will follow in Central Park.
- Zumba - Start Friday with a cool workout at 10 am in Central Park.
- Owatonna's Farmers Market - Grab some fresh food and other items at Saturday's Farmers Market 7 am to 3 pm at Central Park.
- Gus' Car Show & Fundraiser - The 7th annual car show is at Gus' Station at the Steele County Historical Society's Village of Yesteryear from 8:30 am to 12 pm Saturday, July 24.
- Steele County Historical Society Tours - Tours are planned at the Orphanage Museum, Wells Fargo Bank and in downtown Owatonna.
- River Springs Water Park - Cool off with special admission prices Sunday
- Turbo Kick Class - Get another great workout to start your day in Central Park at 12 pm.
- Enjoy the Great Outdoors - Owatonna Parks and Recreation Summer Weekend Out is also being celebrated this weekend.
