The number of teams participating in the Rice County Relay For Life has gone down in recent years and for the first time in a long time the Relay didn't go over the 100 thousand dollar mark.  The unofficial total tally Saturday morning was just over 94 thousand dollars and with anticipated sponsorships still to come in that total should go over the 96 thousand dollar mark.  Not only are the teams down, so are the luminaries.  Just over 35 hundred luminaries were set up on the fairgrounds, still an awesome site, but down considerably from peak years.  Honorary Co-Chairs Grace Tait and Tom Von Ruden were both on hand.  Tait gave a powerful message about her struggle with cancer and her appreciativeness of the doctors, nurses and fundraisers in attendance who make the treatments possible.  Von Ruden has had some recent setbacks and didn't speak, but he asked to attend the Relay to show his support and the scores and scores on hand did likewise.  The results leave the Faribault Relay just over 90 thousand dollars short of two million dollars raised since it's beginning in 1993. The night started with a awesome singing of the Star Spangled Banner by the Divine Mercy students.  Thanks to all who attended and contributed to another successful night.
