Cannon Falls canned 10 threes en route to a 66-55 win over the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars in first round action of the West Subsection of Section One Class A Saturday afternoon.  The game was supposed to be played Thursday and was moved to Friday and then was moved to Saturday afternoon.  It was not a packed gym due to the dicey roads, but boy I sure enjoyed calling the contest on KDHL.  The Cougars gave the Bombers all they could handle.  The two times they played during the regular season Cannon Falls breezed t 27 and 39 point wins and Z-M actually led by a point on a couple of different occasions in the second half.  Cannon Falls led 29-21 at the half.  6'3 Senior Ellis Hirman was very good around the basket, scoring 25 points and Seniors Kurt Gadient and Jacob Ugland had 12 and 11 respectively.  Hunter Johnson led the Bombers with 19 points including 3 bombs, Jordan Lundell had 18 points and 4 bombs, Brock Peterson tallied 15 points and 3 bombs and Alex Bultena added 10 points.  Cannon Falls is now 19-9 and plays Monday night on POWER 96 Radio in the Mayo Civic Arena in Rochester against the Hayfield Vikings.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.  Hayfield downed Dover-Eyota 72-51.  On the other side of the Subsection bracket Byron crushed Triton 62-27 and Rochester Lourdes bested Pine Island 67-51 in Rochester.
