Those who tuned into NBC’s live coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi tonight were greeted with a little something extra from the network: during a commercial break, NBC teased the return of ‘Heroes,’ the television series created by Tim Kring, which ended in 2010. The new standalone series is appropriately titled ‘Heroes Reborn,’ as teased when the word “Reborn” flashed under the classic logo during the special promo.

The science-fiction drama series, which ran on NBC for four seasons between 2006 and 2010, was created by Tim Kring and followed regular people who discover they have extraordinary abilities, and that there are those who wish to harm them.

The official NBC ‘Heroes’ site is up and running with the 15-second teaser for ‘Heroes Reborn’ (shown above), along with more information on the revival, which will be a standalone miniseries. It’s long been rumored that Tim Kring was working on putting together a new series, and NBC confirms that Kring will be executive producing 13 new episodes — but they’re keeping things “appropriately shrouded in secrecy” until 2015, according to NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

The original series starred the likes of Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Kristen Bell, Zachary Quinto, Adrian Pasdar and Ali Larter. No word yet on whether this new series will involve any of the original stars, but Salke says they “won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

Prior to the premiere of the new miniseries in 2015, NBC will launch a digital series to introduce fans to the new characters and their stories, similar to the digital content which ran online in conjunction with the original series.

So what do you guys think? Are you ready to see ‘Heroes’ be “Reborn” in 2015?
