Saturday morning I headed out to the farm to check the rain gage, the soybeans and do a few more things to get ready for harvest. I could see water standing in some fields as I drove out to the farm  but I did not think we received as much rain as we actually did. From last Sunday until Saturday afternoon there was over 4.5 inches of rain in the gage. This is not the weather you want during soybean harvest.

Being a farmer you have to learn to deal with the weather. You just have to do the best you can and try and stay optimistic. I was disappointed I could not combine beans this weekend but I was not alone. The rainy weather Friday spoiled Home Coming Parades and other activities too. Maybe because of bad weather you can appreciate good weather? Today was about as perfect a day as you could wish for in October. Clear skies, with a little wind and a high temperature of about 77 degrees will sure help dry out my soggy fields.
