Rochester Woman Flees Police, Crawls Into 2-Foot Diameter Pipe

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A woman who fled Rochester police Friday must not suffer from claustrophobia.
She ended up crawling 200 feet inside a 24-inch diameter underground pipe.
RPD communications coordinator Amanda Grayson says patrol officers spotted the woman near the Mayo Civic Center around 7:30 pm and realized she was wanted on a warrant.
Grayson says “When they approached her, she ran and jumped into the Zumbro River. The suspect continued across the river and into a stormwater pipe, but officers did not initially locate her.”
Grayson says they soon determined she had crawled inside a stormwater pipe and made verbal contact with her. She says “They eventually convinced her to come out.”
The woman was taken to Saint Marys Hospital for an evaluation.
Rochester Fire Department and Rochester Public Works Department assisted at the scene. The incident lasted about 2.5 hours.
