River Bend Nature Center in Faribault, Mn. is hosting some events to assist students with learning about the great outdoors.  Naturalists invite kindergarten through fifth graders to "School's Out Adventure Day: Nature's Mysteries" Friday, October 16, 2020.

The event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with optional childcare from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for an additional fee.

The day will be dedicated to, "unraveling nature's mysteries" according to information provided by River Bend.  They say, "Be a detective as you investigate a 'Who did it?' nature mystery."

These are day-long camps open to kindergarten through 5th graders on days when school is not in session. but River Bend officials say, "the craving for adventure and exploration is strong!  River Bend's team of naturalists will provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and activities to interact with, discover, and understand nature."

"Bring a lunch and snacks needed to get through a busy day.  Make sure to dress for the weather, as the camp will be mainly outside."

The Adventure Day fee is $50 per person, $40 for River Bend members, with optional before and aftercare for an extra $10.

Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

River Bend is also hosting Science Days.

The first event takes place Monday, October 26, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In a news release from River Bend Nature Center they say, "For the 2020-21 school year, River Bend Nature Center invites homeschool families, co-ops, and distance learners the opportunity to experience all of the seasons at River Bend!"

"On each science day, two different topics are offered, with two sessions of each, to ensure small group sizes (6 students).  Students can register for one class, or for both!  Science Days alternate age groups of first through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade."

"Monday, October 26 register for one or both of the following programs.  Each program is an hour long."

  • Nature Notes on Fall Phenology at 10;00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  You can be a scientist.  Learn how to document the changes you see in nature, especially in transitional seasons of fall and spring.
  • Creatures of the Night at 11:00 a.m. and 2;00 p.m.  Explore the mysterious world of nocturnal animals.  Discover what adaptations they have to help them navigate at night.
