Randolph Wins Fastpitch Battle with Waterville-Elysian-Morristown

Two of the best teams in Minnesota Class A Fastpitch over the past few years went toe to toe in Randolph Saturday and did not disappoint those in attendance.  Randolph senior pitcher Morgyn Otte got the winning hit in the bottom of the 9th inning for the 6-5 victory.

Senior Meredith Taylor hit a solo home run in the eighth to extend the game after the Buccaneers took the lead in the top of the inning.  The future Augsburg Auggies player had three hits in the game.

Both teams came out focused to hit with Waterville-Elysian-Morristown scoring 2 runs in the top of the first and the Rockets answering with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.  The Buccaneers scratched out a run in the second and another in the 6th inning to tie the game.  Both teams scored in the 8th to set up the dramatic walk off for Randolph.

Randolph had 13 hits, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 9 hits in the game.  The Rockets were charged with 3 errors, the Bucs 1 error in the game.

Otte went the distance in the pitching circle for Randolph scattering 9 hits over 9 innings with 3 of the 5 runs earned.  She struck out 15 and walked 3 batters while throwing 141 pitches, 98 for strikes.

Gloria Cortez threw the first four innings of the game, giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 1 batter and walking not walking anyone.  Addison Taylor suffered the loss throwing the final 4 and 2/3 innings of the game.  Taylor gave up 6 hits and 2 earned runs while also not walking any batters and collecting 2 strikeouts.

Cortez threw 57 pitches, 41 strikes.  Taylor had 62 pitches, 46 strikes.

In the earlier game of the day Randolph defeated Visitation Academy of Mendota Heights 11-2.  Otte threw a 5 hitter while going the distance with 15 strikeouts and no walks.

Six Rockets had multiple hit games with a total of 15 hits for the team.

Randolph is 10-0.  They have scored 105 runs while allowing 7.  The first runs of the season were scored Saturday by Waterville-Elysian-Morristown and Visitation after six shutout wins to start the season.

The Rockets host Southland 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mike Silk Field.

The Buccaneers fell to the Blazers of Visitation Academy 15-10 in the other game at Randolph.  Addyson Taylor started the game for Waterville-Elysian-Morristown going the first 6 innings.  The lefthander allowed 4 runs and 8 hits with one strikeout, 4 walks.  Gloria Cortez pitched the last inning with 11 runs scored, just one earned, 1 strikeout, 1 walk and 9 hits.

Taylor threw 87 pitches, 52 strikes,  Cortez had 47 total pitches, 30 strikes

Visitation clubbed 17 hits, WEM 15 hits in the contest.  The Buccaneers had 5 errors while Visitation played error free ball.  Addyson Taylor had two triples and a double at the plate.

Kylie Pittman also had a pair of doubles and three hits.  Senior Lindsay Condon hammered a double finishing with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

The Buccaneers now with a 3-2 record go to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Monday.  A 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

Randolph Head Coach Dennis Trom picked up win number 100 in his career last Thursday.  This is his 6th season at the helm but remember there were no games in 2020 so this is actually his 5th year about halfway through the season.

Mike Silk had 419 wins from 1980 to 2014 for the Rockets.
